About Crawl Space Encapsulation

Moisture is a serious concern in all homes, and the main source is often hiding under your floorboards. In the humid climate of Central Kentucky, a vented crawl space may still harbor condensation and moisture, which leads to mold, insect infestations, and rot! A properly sealed crawl space, which may include a dehumidifier and/or sump pump (depending on your specific conditions) will protect your house and your lungs from damaging molds and mildew. Controlling humidity levels is in fact the best way to control dust mite populations, the most  common indoor allergen.

Air-sealing the space will also decrease the amount of crawl space air that winds up in your living spaces, thereby improving your air quality.

We use only high quality crawl space liners and tapes to ensure that your home's envelope is sealed! Contact us so we can review your site and make a plan together to keep you dry and Breathing Easy!

Your Crawl Space and Your Health

Why worry about what lurks in your crawl space?

The Stack Effect.

The Stack Effect occurs because the warmer air in your house rises and escapes upwards, and pulls the also warming air in your crawl space up into the living areas of the house. And with that air comes any moisture, dust, or mold spores that may be in that crawl space.

A study on college students determined that moisture and mold in the residences caused a significant increase in allergic rhinitis (nose and eye symptoms) and asthma-like symptoms (1).

Water-damaged fiberglass insulation can release fibers into your living space and harbor rodents.

According to the American Lung Association, dust mites are a major cause of indoor allergies and asthma, and the BEST way to control dust mites is.... to keep humidity below 50%. Dust mites need ambient moisture to survive as they can not drink water. Eliminate moisture, eliminate mites, reduce allergies!

Many wood-eating pests like termites, beetles, and of course fungus also either require or prefer moist conditions to survive.

For your own health, and the health and longevity of your home, a clean dry crawl space puts you on a good foundation.

So get it done right, and Breathe Easy!
